Mayors of Corfu, Lefkada and Governer of the Ionian Islands visit Serbian Patriarch

On Saturday, February 23, 2013 His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch met with Mr. Spiriodn Spiru, Governor of the Ionian Islands; Mr. Giannis Trepeklis and Mr. Kostas Aravantis, mayors of Corfu and Lefkada respectfully; accompanied by His Excellency Dimostenes Stoidis, Ambassador of Greece in Serbia and Mr. Spiros Mastoras, honorary consul of Serbia on Corfu.

The members of the delegation informed His Holiness about the life of our brotherly people on these Greek islands.

Patriarch Irinej particularly pointed out the great role of the citizens of Corfu who gave shelter to our people, Church and army in the First World War (from 1916-18). Therefore one century later, we should mark with dignity this historical moment of the Serbian and Greek history.
