Memorial service held for the victims of the Curug raid
The memorial service was served on January 4, 2012 in the church of the Ascension of the Lord in Curug to the new martyrs of Curug and to all who suffered in the 1942 raid.
His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa served the memorial service with the concelebration of bishops: Vasilije of Zvornik-Tuzla, Lukijan of Budim, Lukijan of Osek-Polje and Baranja, Jovan of Sumaidja, Filaret of Milesevo, David of Krusevac, Porfirije of Jegar, priests and deacons of the Diocese of Backa as well as many believers from Curug, Sajkas and all Backa.
The memorial service was attended by the President of the Assembly of the AP of Vojvodina Mr. Sándor Egeresi, provincial secretary for information Mrs. Ana Tomanova, president of the Municipality of Zabalj Mr. Branko Stajic, president of the local office for Curug Mrs. Dragica Dragin, president of the Memorial society 1942 Rard Mr. Milan Radomir.
The Curug church , although the greatest in Backa, was too small to recieve all who came to pray for the suffered of the 1942 raid.
The commemoration in the Topalov warehouse, when in one moment five hundred people of Curug was killed, was served by His Grace Bishop Lukijan of Osek-Polje and Baranja. The Society of the 1942 Raid plans to build on this spot the Museum of the victims of the raid.
