Requiem for Princess Margaret Karadjordjevic

On 15 January 2013 in London after a long illness Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret Karadjordjevic fall asleep. The requiem for  Princess was served at her own request, at the Saint Sava church in London, and she was buried at the family’s cemetery in Salem, in German state of Baden-Württemberg on Monday, 28 January 2013.

Princess Margaret was born on 14 July 1932 at the Salem castle in the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. She was a daughter of Prince Berthold of Baden and Princess Theodore of Greece and Danmark (also sister of Prince Philip, duke of Edinburgh – husband of British queen Elizabeth II). She was the first spouse of Prince Tomislav Karadjordjevic, for whom she got married in June 1957. In this marriage two children were born: Prince Nicholas (1958) and Princess Katherine (1959). Prince Tomislav and Princess Margaret divorced in November 1981.

The requiem for Princess Margaret in the church of Saint Sava was served by Their Graces: Archbishop Gregory of Thyatira and Great Britain from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Archbishop Elisiy from Moscow Patriarchate, Bishop Dositej of Britain-Scandinavia and Bishop Andrej of Remesiana, the envoy of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch,and a number of  Serbian, Greek and Russian priests from London concelebrated.

The requiem service was attended by: Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II with son Philip and his spouse Katherine and children of the late Princess, Prince Nicholas and Princess Katherine with their families.  Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and other members of the British Royal Family, made a great honour with their presence. In attendance also were members of other Royal houses: Queen Anna Maria of Greece, Princess Sarvath of Jordan with daughters, brothers of the late Princess – Prince Maximilian of Baden and Prince Ludwig of Baden. Dr. Dejan Popovic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Great Britain and other eminent guests from Great Britain and Europe, friends and acquaintances of the late Princess, as well as members of the London parish of the Serbian Orthodox Church also attended the memorial service.

Following the requiem service, Crown Prince Alexander II, son-in-law Desmond De Silva and Bishop Andrej of Remesiana delivered speeches on the late Princess Margaret.
