Memorial service to Serbian prisoners from the First and Second World War in Austria

On Thursday, November 1, 2011 the Serbian Orthodox parishes in Vienna organized a group visit to cemetaries on which the Serbian prisoners from the First and Second World War are buried. This visit traditionally is organized on November 1, before a commemoration of the dead before the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel.

The faithful visited cemetaries in four places, where Serbian martyrs left their bones, and in Austria there are many such places. The memorial services and commemorations were served by protopresbyter Petar Pantic and protonamesnik Drago Vujic. At the cemetary in Bruckneudorf 78 victims were buried.

At the memorial service in Neusiedl am See where 7000 Serbs were buried, deputy mayor Monika Rup, former mayor Moinsponter, representatives of the provincial authorities and the Association of the Veterans were present. 

In Frauenkirchen a memorial service was served for 2500 Serbian martyrs, who were buried on this place, where a transit camp used to be. On the way back to Vienna, the commemoration was held at the cemetary in Kaisersteinbruck.
