Metropolitan Amfilohije concludes his visit to Brazil
His Eminence Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, the Bishop-administrator of the Diocese of Buenos Aires and South-Central American of the Serbian Patriarchate, finished yesterday , on November 29, 2011 his visit to the Orthodox communities in Brazil which belong to our Local Church.
The last day of the visit, on Tuesday, November 29 the Metropolitan at first, in the early morning, at the Metropolitanate's manor in Recife, met with His Eminence Don Antonio Fernando Saburido, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Olinda and Recife. In a friendly Christian talk Metropolitan Amfilohije informed Archbishop Fernando with the creation of the new Diocese of our Local Church in Brazil, expressing his pleasure with the visit to the Archbishop and asking about the life of this Archbishopric.
Archbishop Fernando welcomed the Metropolitan to Recife and wished him a success in the work to advance the life of the Orthodox Church in Recife. He also informed the Metropolitan about the fact that the Archbishopric of Olinda and Recife is one of the oldest in Brazil and on the South American continent in general.
Metropolitan Amfilohije presented to Archbishop the Cross from Ostrog Monastery as well as two books of the Orthodox theology in Portuguese by local hierchal deputy protopresbyter-staurophor Alexis Pena-Alfara.
The same day the Metropolitan visited two Orthodox communities in the sam Brazilian state of Pernambuco.
At first he visited the Missionary parish of St. Anthony the Great in Belo Jardim, the city of 75000 citizens, 180 km far from Recife, and later also the Missionary parish of St. John Chrysostom in the city of Caruara, 120 km far from Recife and has 315000 citizens.
