Metropolitan Amfilohije received ambassador of Italy

His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral received on July 24, 2009, at the Patriarchate Court His Excellency Armando Varricchio, a newly appointed ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Belgrade.

The high guest at the beginning of talks pointed out he felt a gratitude for the paid honor and the reception, and that he did not come to represent his government but his people. In this context, he reminded of the traditional friendly feelings that connected two nations and also religious feelings, which make the essence of the European culture. Italy has the firm intention to preserve continually the sanctuaries, which are the national pearls of the Serbian spiritualism, but also the pearls of the European heritage which represents symbols of culture of the past centuries.

His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije talked about a great role of Rome through centuries, reminding also of old craftsmen from the West like Fra Vito who took part in the building of some our greatest sanctuaries as Studenica, Dechani, churches and monasteries in the Littoral. The ambassador expressed a wish to visit mentioned sanctuaries.

At the end of the talks His Excellency thanked for the welcome promising cooperation with the Serbian Church and the Republic.
