Metropolitan Amfilohije visits Zlatica monastery
His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral visited Zlatica Monastery in Podgorica on 11 March 2020. The Metropolitan was welcomed by abbess Evgenija, head of this ancient Christian sanctity.
Monastery Zlatica, the ancient Christian seat of the Episcopate from V-VI century with baptistry, is located in Doljani, in Kuce near Podgorica. Remnants of two churches were found with bishop's sarcophagus. There are indications that it housed the seat of Bishop Hilarion of Zeta in the 13th century, before Prevlaka Island. The whole complex was dated back to early Christianity, that is, in the 6th or early 7th century.
According to tradition, kept for centuries by members of the Kuca tribe, the name Zlatici was given by St. Sava.
The Zlatice monastery complex contains the remains of two temples and a monastery residence.
It is interesting to note that in the Argentinean city with more than a million citizens, Resistencia, with the blessing of Bishop Kiril of Buenos Aires and South-Central America a copy of the church from Zlatica is being built
