Metropolitan Hilarion meets with Cardinal Christoph Schönborn Archbishop and Metropolitan Arsenius of Austria
On 13th December 2013, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, made a short stop in Vienna on his way to Budapest. He is to visit Hungary at the invitation of the Hungarian leadership and with the blessing of his holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
Upon arrival in the capital of Austria, Metropolitan Hilarion visited St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral and was warmly welcomed by the rector, archpriest Vladimir Tyschuk.
That same day in the evening, Metropolitan Hilarion met with Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna, in the Archbishop’s palace. They discussed the situation in the Middle East and various aspects of Orthodox-Catholic relations, including the topics of theological dialogue between the Orthodox Churches and the Roman Catholic Church.
Metropolitan Hilarion visited the Austrian metropolia of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and met with Metropolitan Arsenius of Austria. They discussed issues of cooperation between the Ecumenical and Moscow Patriarchates.
