Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev celebrates Liturgy in the Lord’s Tomb

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, the primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, loved and respected throughout the entire Orthodox Church, had the honor of celebrating the Divine Liturgy in the Tomb of the Lord in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on Sunday.

Met. Onuphry is currently on pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where he was joyfully greeted by pilgrims:

His Beatitude was concelebrated by hierarchs of the Jerusalem Patriarchate and other Local Churches, as well as His Grace Bishop Eusebius of Shepetovsky and Slavuta, who accompanied his primate, and clergy of the Ukrainian and Estonian Churches, reports the site of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The Ukrainian primate offered a prayer for his flock and a prayer for peace in Ukraine while serving at the holiest site in the world.

On Friday, Met. Onuphry with His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem who noted that while the Church is always in a state of trial and persecution, in this regard “the Ukrainian Church is going through a special period in its history.”

The Patriarch emphasized that prayers are always offered at the sacred sites throughout the Holy Land that the Lord would protect His Church and His faithful in Ukraine. Met. Onuphry thanked him for his prayers and conveyed the gratitude of all the Ukrainian clergy and faithful to the Church of Jerusalem.

It is notable that while hierarchs, clergy, and pilgrims of the canonical Ukrainian Church are frequently received by Pat. Theophilos and serve at the holy sites in Jerusalem, the “clergy” of the schismatic church have been absolutely forbidden to serve there and have not been received for an audience with the Patriarch.
