Music spectacle at Kolarac

Afrer premieres in New York, Toronto, London, Rome and Melburn, also the fans of spiritual music in the Serbian capital had an honour and a blessing last night to attend an unusual art event. The great hall of the Kolarac Endowment was a place of the Belgrade premiere of a very rare musical form -  Orthodox St Matthew Passion, which was composed by His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokolamsk.   

 

Before the concert His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch and Mr. Vuk Jeremic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia addressed the public.

Serbian Patriarch Irinej thanked Metropolitan of Volokolamsk and sisterly Russian Orthodox Church, led by Patriarch Kyrril of Moscow and All Russia, for the support in the preservation of the Serbian holy shrines in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the announced aid in the completion of the works of St. Sava Memorial Cathedral on Vracar. 

Vuk Jeremic welcomed Metropolitan Hilarion to the Serbian capital, and also repetead that the Serbian people would never forget the support of the Russian people for the preservation of our Holy Land, from which spiritual treasure and the foundation of our identity come from - Kosovo and Metohija.

Conveying greetings and blessings of His Holiness Patriarch Kyrril of Moscow and the All Russia, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokoloamsk addressed the present with words of gratitude and brotherly love.

After that followed the premiere performance of the Orthodox passion - St. Matthew Passion of Metropolitan Hilarion performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Radio Television of Serbia conducted by Bojan Sudjic. This was an excellent opportunity for the public to enjoy in historically unusual project and a great challenge for the performers.
