Name Day of Patriarch of Alexandria in Mozambique
On Monday 17th February 2014, The feast of the Saint and Great Martyr Theodoros of Tyre, the day on which His Beatitude Theodore II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria celebrates his name day, the Very Reverend Archimadrite Daniel Biaziz, Preacher of the Holy Metropolis of Zakynthos, conducted a festal Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Holy Archangels in Maputo, officiated by the Patriarchate, at which the children of the youth choir of the Cultural School of the Diocese sang hymns.
During the Communion hymn His Beatitude entered the Sanctuary and received Holy Communion. At the end of the Liturgy His Beatitude conducted the Service of the Artoklasia in honour of his patron saint St Theodore of Tyre.
Present at the above services were His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affaris of Greece Mr. Akis Gerontopoulos, the representative of the Hellenic Parliament, Parliamentarian of Zakynthos for SYRIZA and chairman of the Council of Friendship between Greece and Mozambique Mr. Stavros Kontonis and the Director General of International relations of the Hellenic Parliament Mrs. Panayiota Miliou, clergy from the Holy Diocese of Mozambique and many Orthodox faithful, who came to wish the Patriarch.
The Patriarch then went on to inaugurate the Greek Consulate in Mozambique, where, apart from all those mentioned above, the Honourary Consul General of Greece in Mozambique, Mr. Gerasimos Marketis, Ambassadors of other countries to Mozambique and Greek citizens were also present.
After the inauguration service, His Beatitude left for the See of the Diocese, where, following a programmed meeting organized by His Grace Bishop Ioannis he had contacts with the religious leaders of Maputo. The leaders thanked His Beatitude for this important initiative and stressed that they need this authentic theological expertise of the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria, so that with its help they can teach the people of Mozambique which today more than ever thirsts for knowledge of the truth.
