No abortions in Ryazan Province for one week

Hospitals of the Ryazan Province are not performing any abortions during the week of July 9 to 15, reports the Regional Ministry of Health of Ryazan.

The local medical organizations have joined the “Give Me Life!” campaign, and during this time, psychologists and gynecologists will hold sessions with patients to educate them about reproductive health and to promote motherhood and childhood.

“Give Me Life!” is an annual event put on by the Foundation of Social-Cultural Initiatives. It is closely connected with the Russian holiday The Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity, and is always held from July 9 to 15.

“The loss of a desired pregnancy is a tragedy for any woman,” Olga Vasilevskaya, the psychologist of a local Ryazan hospital says. “It’s sad to see a woman voluntarily depriving herself of the happiness of motherhood. Abortion is not just the termination of a pregnancy, but also has a negative impact on reproductive health in the form of infertility, with the risk of never becoming a mother.”

The fight for children’s lives has united doctors, social workers, teachers, and the Church. Thanks to their joint work in the Ryazan Province, there has been a steady decline in the number of abortions in recent years.
