Serbian Patriarch receives medical team of Serbia

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Kyr Irinej on March 17, 2020, received an expert team of Serbian physicians at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade.

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Kyr Irinej, realizing the seriousness of the situation, with regard to the presence of the pandemic, will accept the advice of doctors, i.e., infectologists and epidemiologists, and calls upon all citizens of the Republic of Serbia to strictly adhere to the prescribed measures of protection from coronavirus and, relative to the same, he decided by his personal example, as an elderly citizen, to demonstrate how one should sacrifice and adhere to necessary restrictive measures prescribed by experts and State institutions.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Pogrom on Kosovo and Metohia

On the 17th of March 2019 it is 15 years since from the Kosovo and Metohija, in destructive attacks by Albanian extremists, 4,012 Serbs were expelled, most of them have not still returned to their homes.

In a wave of violence in Kosovo and Metohija 19 people were then killed, eight of them Serbs, while 11 Albanians were killed in the clash with members of the international security forces. At least 170 Serbs were injured as well as dozens of members of the international forces who clashed with local Albanians while protecting Serbs and their property. About 800 Serbian houses were destroyed and 35 religious shrines were burned, including 18 cultural monuments, among which the Church of Our Lady of the Levish in Prizren.

The Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church has been closely and carefully following up the daily news and statements of those in charge of the Church, the State, and the medical profession about the increasing spread coronoviral infection that is dangerous to health - and in many cases, to life itself – to life of millions of people.

To all those who fight this plague, especially to physicians and other medical staff, the Holy Synod expresses our deepest gratitude and reverence for the day and night efforts in the prevention and suppression of the epidemic and calls upon them God’s blessing. At the same time, the Holy Synod expresses its condolences to the families, relatives and friends of victims of the virus, for whom it has had fatal consequences.

We are in a special situation while facing a great problem, which is not only our problem but the problem of the whole world, i.e. appearance of the coronavirus. We have not yet experienced the peak of the negative effects of that virus, but we are certainly on that way. It is a great comfort to us that our country is equipped to deal with this phenomenon and that it will undertake all the measures to resist the negative effects of theterrible virus, which, as we can see, has been threatening people all over the world, said Patriarch Irinej and added:

Patriarch celebrated in Saint Gabriel the Archangel church

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church of Saint Gabriel the Archangel in Belgrade on 15 March 2020.

The Patriarch was concelebrated by the local clergy. After that a memory service for the Sarajevo Serbs was held in the presence of the members of the association the Serbian Lighthouse.

Bijelo Polje: We mustn’t let our shrines, those beams of light that illuminate our way, be taken away from us

On 12th March 2020, thousands of citizens of Bijelo Polje assembled at the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul for a prayer of supplication to the Most Holy Theotokos

Afterwards a cross procession of the faithful for defending their shrines and Orthodox faith set off through the streets of Bijelo Polje to the Church of St Nicolas the Wonderworker in Nikoljac. There protopresbyter Sinisa Jankovic addressed the congregation with the words of pastoral instructions reminding them of the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ that He had said to his Apostles and Disciples: ‘He who follows Me will not walk in darkness’ (Jn. 8,12)
