On September 16th, 2019, the Serbian Bar Association of America-SBA celebrated its Patronal Feast Day - Slava, St. Joanikije the First Serbian Patriarch, at the Sheraton Grand Chicago.

His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, with the blessings of His Grace Bishop Longin of New Gracanica-Midwestern America, presided over the Service of the Blessing of the Festal Bread and Wheat, assisted by Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Srdjan Veselinovic of Chicago. His Grace congratulated all gathered and spoke about their Patron Saint and the Orthodox understanding of the etymological meaning of law in light of discernment, truth and judgment. He also spoke of the good work that the Honorable Congressman Ted Poe did, among all else, as co-chairman of the Congressional Serbian Congress for the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the raising of the Serbian Flag over the White House in 2018.

Bishop Jovan celebrated five years of being on the throne of Bishops of Slavonia

On the feast day of Holy New Martyrs of Jasenovac, His Grace Bishop Jovan of Slavonia marked the fifth anniversary of the enthronement into the throne of Bishops of Pakrac-Slavonia by serving the Holy Liturgy in the monastery of Jasenovac.

On 22 September 2019, the feast of the Holy and Righteous Joachim and Anna, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej participated prayerfully in the Divine Liturgy in the Belgrade Cathedral of the Holy Archangel Michael and received the Holy Gifts (photo gallery).

Consecration of a Three-Altar church in the Celije Monastery

In honor of the eight centuries of autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary since the birth and 40 years since the repose of Venerable Justin of Celije,  consecration of a Three-Altar church of Saint Sava, Holy Martyr Justin Philosopher and Venerable Mary the Egyptian – the Testament church of Venerable Justin of Celije - will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at the monastery of Celije near Valjevo, Serbia.

St. Justin, known simply as Avva, left a will for his disciples to publish his works, but that income should be belong to the St. John Chrysostom Fund with the aim of erecting a three-altar church in the Monastery of Celije in honor of St. Sava (central altar), St. Martyr Justin Philosopher (southern altar) and Reverend Mary the Egyptian (Northern Altar).

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Siluan, and under auspices of the Metropolitanate of Australia-New Zealand, one more successful celebration of significant jubilees of the Serbian Church took place last weekend.

After the celebration in Sidney, the deanery of Melbourne held a solemn academy in the church hall of the church of Saint Sava in Greensborough on 14 September 2019. The celebration was attended by Their Graces Bishops Siluan of Australia and New Zealand, Longin of New Gracanica and Midwestern America, George of Canberra of the Russian Orthodox Church in Abroad, abbot of the monastery of Chilandar Archimandrite Metodije as well as by monks and priests of the Melbourn’s deanery.

Executive Committee of the Assembly of Bishops Recommits to Orthodox Unity in the USA

The Executive Committee of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America met today, under the chairmanship of Archbishop Elpidophoros, to discuss the state of Orthodox Christian unity in the USA.

Recognizing the challenges in global Orthodoxy, the jurisdictional representatives reiterated their commitment to the local faithful of America and rededicated themselves to fulfilling the call for canonical normalcy and pastoral unity on contemporary issues.
