150,000 march in St. Petersburg cross procession

In the northern Russian capital of St. Petersburg, two cross processions took place yesterday to commemorate the transfer of the relics of St. Alexander Nevsky, with over 150,000 people participating.

The Fourth Assembly of the Metropolitanate of Australia-New Zealand

The fourth regular Assembly of Metropolitanate of Australia-New Zealand was held on premises of the Cathedral church of Holy Great martyr in Cabramatta, Sidney, from 5^th to 7^th September 2019.

The Assembly began with invocation of the Holy Spirit in the church, whereupon Assembly members proceeded to the church hall where the working part of the Assembly started in presence of many priests, representatives of church communities and councils of some missionary parishes as well as of delegates from entire Metropolitanate.

With a blessing of His Grace Bishop Siluan of the Metropolitanate of Australia-New Zealand, a solemn academy on the occasion of the 800^th anniversary of the autocephaly and the 70^th anniversary of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Australia and New Zealand was held in Pioneer Theatre in Castle Hill on 5 September 2019.

Truth about suffering of martyrs in Stari Brod

On the occasion of the consecration of the memorial museum to the martyrs of Stari Brod died in 1942, on 7 September 2019 the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy was served in the church of Holy Prince Lazar in Andricgrad, in Visegrad. 

His Eminence Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabar Bosnia officiated the Liturgy with the concelebration of Their Graces Bishops Nikanor of Banat, Dositej of Britain and Scandinavia, Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic and Andrej of Austria-Switzerland.  

Anniversary of suffering of the martyrs near Stari Brod on the Drina River

With Vesper service in the church of Holy Prince Lazar in Andricgrad, in Visegrad, the marking of 77th anniversary of the suffering of the martyrs near Stari Brod on the Drina River began. 

His Grace Bishop Nikanor of Banat officiated in prayerful presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabar Bosnia and Their Graces Bishops Dositej of Britain and Scandinavia, Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic and Andrej of Austria-Switzerland. 

The Beheading of the Holy Prophet and Forerunner John the Baptist

Why does the Church give such veneration to St. John the Baptist, even fixing a strict fast day in his honour? Here are ten reasons:

1. Our Lord Himself said that St. John was the greatest prophet “among those born of women” (Luke 7, 28). Some hearing these words are surprised. They ask: Surely, Christ Himself is the greatest man born of women? However, Christ was not born of a woman (i.e. a married female), he was born of a Virgin. Therefore, in obedience to our Lords words, that St. John is the greatest born of women, the Church duly honors him. In fact, there are no fewer than six feasts of St. John in the Church Year. The first is his Conception on September 23/October 6. Then comes his commemoration on January 7/20, the day after the Feast of the Baptism of Christ. The third is the Second Finding of his head on February 24/March 9. His next feast is the Third Finding of his head on May 25/June 7. The fifth is his Birth, or Nativity, on June 24/July 7, and finally today’s feast, the last in the Church Year, his Beheading on August 29/September 11.
