Metropolitan Amfilohije in USA: Official schedule

His Eminence, the Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropoitan of Montenegro, Amfilohije, will be visiting our Diocese of New Gracanica-Midwestwrn America from December 8th until December 20th. Svetigora publishing house has printed Metropolitan’s journal in four volumes which talks in detail about the events in Kosovo and Metohjija, since the beginning of occupation of this part of Serbia until this day. Our diocese is going to sponsor promoting of this book in some of our parishes and at the Diocesan center.

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch is visiting the Stauropegic monastery of St. Sava in Libertville, as well the Dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church which are located in the Midwest and the West of the United States of America.

Nativity Fast

The establishment of the Nativity Fast, as well as other multi-day fasts relates to the ancient times of Christianity. But already from IV century St. Ambrosius of Milan, Philistrius and St. Augustin mention the Nativity Fast in their works. In V century Leo the Great wrote about the Nativity Fast . At first the Nativity Fast lasted seven days for Christians, and for the others - a bit longer. At the Council of 1166 when was held in the time of the Constantinople Patriarch Luke and Byzantine emperor Manuel a forty-day fast was ordered to be observed by all Christians before the great feast of the Nativity of Christ.

In the monastery of Decani this year's celebration of the donator's slava, St. King Stephen of Decani began with a feast day's vesper service which was served by Bishop Teodosije of Raska Prizren and Kosovo and Metohija and retired Bishop Atanasije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina. The vesper was attended by 200 monks, nuns and believers from many Dioceses of the SOC.
