Opening of the Legal Year 2015 Service in Melbourne
The Episcopal Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of Oceania, sponsored the Annual Opening of the Legal Year for 2015 with a Pan-Orthodox Prayer Service held at the St Eustathios Greek Orthodox Church in South Melbourne on Tuesday morning, 3 February 2015. Many notable participants, including clergy and lay, legal professionals from the Inter-Orthodox community, were present to receive and pray with and for the dignitaries from the judiciary, including distinguished Supreme Court justices.
His Grace Bishop Ezekiel of Dervis, from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia presided over the Service of Prayer. Also present at the Prayer Service were His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Melitoupolis of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, together with the Reverend Presbyter Dimitri Baroudi, representing His Eminence Metropolitan Paul of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines, the Very Reverend Protopresbyter Dr Michael Protopopov, representing His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the Reverend Protosingelos Justin (Jeremic) from Paris, representing His Grace Bishop Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand.
His Grace Bishop Irinej, in inviting Serbian-Australian legal professionals and students of law to join their co-religionists and members of the legal profession, anticipates that these gatherings will serve as a catalyst for his long-announced intention of initiating a Serbian-Australian Legal Association.
