Order of St Sava presented to the Greek ambassador Christos Panagopoulos
With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of
Serbia and by the decision of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox
Church, the Order of St Sava of the first class has been presented to His
Excellency Christos Panagopoulos , the ambassador of Greece, on occasion of the special
audience which was held today on January, 15 2009, at the Patriarchate of
Serbia in Belgrade.
His Eminence Archbishop Amfilohije of Cetinje and
Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral presented this highest distinction
of the Serbian Orthodox Church to the ambassador of the Republic of Greece, in
presence of Their Graces Bishop Irinej of Bachka, Atanasije of Hvosno ,
Porfirije of Jegar, and also archpriest-staurophor Sava Jovic, the chief
secretary of the Holy Synod of Bishops. This solemn audience was attended by
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, representatives of
the diplomatic cors and the Greek community in Serbia.
Ambassador Christos Panagopoulos thanked for an honor of
presenting him the highest distinction by the Holy Synod of Bishops and also
reminded that mutual roots of Serbian and Greek people are in the Byzantine
Empire and that our two nations were brotherly united through history in same
faith and culture.
