Bible to be translated into Russian sign language beginning with Gospel of Mark

A meeting on the project to translate the Bible into Russian sign language was held in Moscow on January 27. The participants, representing the patriarchate’s Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service, the Institute for Bible Translation, the All-Russian Society for the Deaf, clergy working with the deaf from various dioceses, sign language interpreters, and the deaf community, decided to begin with the Gospel of Mark, reports the site of the Moscow Patriarchate.

On Tuesday 18th/31th January 2017, a team of 16 students of the Music School of Alimos visited the Patriarchate, under the direction of the music teacher Mrs. Ioanna Aggelou, after the completion of two music performances at the Holy Metropolis of Acre-Ptolemaida on Saturday, 15th/28th January 2017, hosted by the Patriarchal Commissioner in Acre Archimandrite Philotheos, and on Sunday 16th/29th January 2017, at the Holy Metropolis of Nazareth, hosted by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Kyriakos of Nazareth.

France: Romanian Orthodox Metropolis buys St Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Auvers-sur-Oise

The Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Western and Southern Europe bought Wednesday, 25 January 2017, St Nicholas Church in Auvers-sur-Oise, located in the north-west of Paris.

The former roman-catholic church building dates back to 1910 and has not been used for 40 years, according to Fr. Răzvan Ionescu, rector of Sts. Paraskeva and Genevieve Romanian Parish in Paris.

Georgia parliament looks to protect religious sensibilities of believers

The Georgian Parliament Committee for Human Rights adopted today a bill that, if approved, will make the insulting of religious feelings administratively punishable, reports Georgia Online.

Under this bill, such offenders will be fined 300 gel ($110) for the first offense and 600 gel ($220) for repeat offenses. Moreover, the desecration of religious shrines and sacred objects will bring a fine of 500 gel ($185) for the first offense and 1000 gel ($370) thereafter.
