Design Delta Architects Constructs First Byzantine-Style Greek Orthodox Monastery

Delta Architects (DDA) owned by Greek-Australian Demetrios Stavropoulos has undertaken the task of constructing Australia’s first Byzantine-style Greek Orthodox monastery on Mangrove Mountain near Sydney.
Pantanassa Monastery was first established under the initiative of Archbishop Stylianos back in 1976. In 2005 DDA began construction for the main church of Pantanassa Monastery, Catholicon, which is dedicated to the Holy Mother of God Pantanassa. Furthermore, in 2008, construction began on the monk’s living quarters, kitchen, refectory and library and continued until the late 2010 to a partial lock up stage, where it was put on hold for financial reasons, notes the monastery’s website.

On Wednesday 4th November 2015, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, continuing his Missionary journey to the rough region of Gulu in northern Uganda, visited the holy Churches of the Life-Giving Fountain, and the Archangel Gabriel as well as the adjacent school, literally built in the jungle, where the pupils afforded him an enthusiastic welcome.

On 3rd November 2015, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Eminence Jonas Metropolitan of Kampala, His Eminence Ieronymos Metropolitan of Mwanza, His Eminence Narkissos Metropolitan of Noubea and His Grace Innocent Bishop of Burundi and Rwanda, traveled by road following a long journey to the district of Gulu in Northern Uganda, next to the border with South Sudan.
