On 3 April 2013, Metropolitan Hilarion, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute of Post-Graduate and Doctoral Studies, professor of the Moscow Theological Academy and of the University of Fribourg, opened a conference on “Episcopal Ordination and Episcopal Ministry according to Catholic and Orthodox Doctrine and Canon Law” at the University of Fribourg. Taking part in the conference, which will last four days, are bishops and theologians from the Roman Cath0olic Church and the Orthodox Churches, faculty and students of the universities of Switzerland.

On 24th March 2013, the Sunday of Orthodoxy, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, officiated at Matins and conducted the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria, concelebrating with His Eminence Gabriel Metropolitan of Leontopolis, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria.

On Friday, April 5, 2013, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens presided over the Third Stasis of the Salutations to the Theotokos at the historic Church of Panaghia Vlachernon. Among those in attendance were His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, His Eminence Metropolitan John of Pergamon, His Grace Bishop Dionysius of Synada, His Grace Bishop Gabriel of Diavleia, Ambassador Nikolaos Matthioudakis, Consul General of Greece in Istanbul, Mr. Nick Kalamaris, Parish Council President of the Vlachernon Community, as well as many visitors and pilgrims from surrounding areas, Greece and other countries. A brief reception followed in the Church Hall.

First session of Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s Organizing Committee for the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia

On 1 April 2013, His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine chaired the first session of the Organizing Committee for the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia. The meeting took place at the residence of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in St. Panteleimon’s Monastery.

Attending the meeting, besides members of the Organizing Committee appointed by the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on 15 March 2013, were representatives of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine and of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture.

On Sunday, March 31, 2013, His All-Holiness presided over the Divine Liturgy marking the 2nd Sunday of Great Lent, Sunday of St. Gregory of Palamas, at St. Theodore Church in Vlangas Community. Among those in attendance were Mr. Stavros Gioltzoglou, Education Coordinator of the Consulate General of Greece in Istanbul, Abbess Iakovi from the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Akritochori-Greece, Mr. Georgios Andoniou, Chairman of the Program Committee and News Coordinator of the Greek Radio-Television ERT, as well as students from Northern Greece. A reception followed afterward at the Community Hall.
