Russian Patriarch Kirill visits Patriarchate of Jerusalem

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, who arrived in Jerusalem on Friday, was accompanied by a solemn procession of clerics and laypeople on his way from the Jaffa Gate to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre inside the Old City.

Archbishop Tikhon Elected as the New Primate of Orthodox Church in America

Archbishop Tikhon of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania has been elected as the new Primate of the Orthodox Church in America (Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All-America and Canada). He was elected by the All-American Council which is the highest legislative and administrative authority of OCA.

Biography

After receiving his Master of Divinity degree from Saint Tikhon Seminary in 1993, he was appointed instructor in Old Testament at Saint Tikhon Seminary. He continues to serve as Senior Lecturer in Old Testament, teaching Master level courses in the Prophets and the Psalms and Wisdom Literature. He is also an instructor in the seminary’s Extension Studies program, offering courses in the lives of the Old Testament saints, the liturgical use of the Old Testament, and the Old Testament in patristic literature.

Requiem and Funeral Service of Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim

On the occasion of the death of His Holiness Kyr Maxim, Bulgarian Patriarch and upon the invitation of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Kyr Irinej, Serbian Patriarch with the members of his escort participated in the requiem to Bulgarian Patriarch of blessed repose, on Friday, 9 November 2012, at the Cathedral Church of Alexander Nevsky in Sofia.

Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim reposed in the Lord

The Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim reposed in the Lord on 6 November 2012, as  reported by Bulgarian national television. The head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church had been in hospital in Sophia in the past weeks. On October 28th he celebrated his 98th birthday. Today, on Tuesday, the Holy Synod of Bishops will meet in order to elect the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal throne until the election of the new Patriarch.
