Requiem and Funeral Service of Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim
On the occasion of the death of His Holiness Kyr Maxim, Bulgarian Patriarch and upon the invitation of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Kyr Irinej, Serbian Patriarch with the members of his escort participated in the requiem to Bulgarian Patriarch of blessed repose, on Friday, 9 November 2012, at the Cathedral Church of Alexander Nevsky in Sofia.
The Funeral service was served by all Bulgarian bishops and representatives of all local Orthodox Churches. His Eminence Kyr Amfilohije, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, on behalf of the Serbian Orthodox Church, concelebrated and His Eminence Kyr George, Metropolitan of Trnovo, Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal throne served the Liturgy.
His All-Holiness Kyr Bartholomew II, Ecumenical Patriarch, served the requiem and His Holiness Kyr Irinej, Serbian Patriarch; His Beatitude Kyr Hieronimos, Archbishop of Athens, and His Beatitude Kyr Anastasios, Archbishop of Albania, concelebrated.
The Holy Liturgy and the requiem service was attended by the state leadership of the Republic of Bulgaria, led by President Rosen Plevneliyev.
After the funeral service and commemoration in front of the Cathedral church, Patriarch of blessed repose was escorted to the Troyan Monastery, where he was buried.
In the afternoon, the members of the delegation of the Serbian Orthodox Church visited the church of Saint Great Martyr Kyriaki, where there are the relics of Saint Serbian King Stephen Milutin.
