On May 27, 2012, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, while on his official visit to the Russian Orthodox Church, visited together with retinue the Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Kronstadt. His Beatitude was welcomed by the rector of the church, Archpriest Sviatoslav Melnik. The guests were informed about the restoration work conducted in this memorial church devoted to seamen who fell in action.

The primate of the Orthodox Church of Greece proceeded to the sanctuary and the congregation sang the hymn to St. Nicholas the Wonder-worker.

On May 27, 2012, a festive reception was held at the Golden Hall of the Metropolitan’s residence in St. Alexander Nevsky’s Laura in St. Petersburg on the occasion of the visit of the head of the Orthodox Church of Greece to the city, the birthday of the ruling bishop of St. Petersburg, Metropolitan Vladimir, and the Day of the City. Among those present were His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece and his delegation, Metropolitan Vladimir of St. Petersburg and Ladoga, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, bishops and clergy, St. Petersburg Vice-Governor I. Divinsky, as well as representatives of the Armed Forces, business community and the city’s elite.

Metropolitan Vladimir addressed His Beatitude Ieronymos, saying, ‘I would like to thank you again for your visit to the Metropolis of St. Petersburg and for your participation in the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of the City. It is a great joy and honour to welcome you to the Golden Hall, the Metropolitan’s chambers of St. Alexander Nevsky’s Laura, the residence of Metropolitans of St. Petersburg. I hope that our fraternal talks and prayers together at shrines in St. Petersburg will serve as a source of spiritual joy for you. I wish you, Your Beatitude, God’s help in your work for the good of the Church of Christ and good health. May our love in Christ and mutual support bring good fruits for the glory of the Lord and help us in our service of Holy Orthodoxy’.

On 24 May 2012, the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, the commemoration day of Ss Cyril and Methodius, Teachers of the Slavs, and the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture, after the Divine Liturgy in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece, accompanied by hierarchs and clergymen, led the procession of the cross with the miracle-working Iberian icon of the Mother of God from the Assumption Cathedral to St Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square.

On 24 May 2012, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece met with the Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Throne Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

The first visit by His Beatitude Ieronymos, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, to the Russian Orthodox Church will take place from May 23 to 30, 2012.

On May 24, the Ascension Day and the commemoration day of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Archbishop Hieronymus of Athens of All Greece will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin. Archbishop Ieronymos will also take part in the opening of the Days of Slavic Literature and Culture.
