Patronal feast at the church of the Three Hierarchs in Paris

On February 12, 2012 the commemoration day of Sts. Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom, celebrations took place at the church of the Three Hierarchs in Paris on the occasion of its patronal feast. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated in this cathedral church of the diocese Chersonese by Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and Primorje (Serbian Orthodox Church), Archbishop Innokenty of Vilna and Lithuania, Archbishop Michael of Geneva and Western Europe, and Bishop Nestor of Chersonese.

A church consecrated in the Monastery of the Dormition in Thailand

On February 9, 2012, Archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk, director of the Moscow Patriarchate’s office for institutions abroad, who is on a visit to Thailand, consecrated the church dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God at the Monastery of the Dormition in Ratchaburi.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Fr. Seraphim Raicha of St. Nicholas’s in Bangkok was ordained in the newly-consecrated church as hieromonk to continue his service in Thailand. Present at the service were pilgrims from various parishes in the country, officials of the Russian Embassy in Thailand and the head of the local administration.

New Orthodox Church Opens in Pakistan

With the Blessings of Metropolitan Hilarion (Primate of Russian Church Outside Russia (Moscow Patriarchate), a new Orthodox church was opened in Sargodha, Pakistan on 30th January, 2012. Rev. Father Adrian Augustus is a parish priest from Sydney who serves in Pakistan. He preaches the traditional Christian faith and creed of the Orthodox Church with its historical background. 57 people have been baptized and 117 people received the sacrament of Chrismation from Rev. Father Adrian. The Pakistan Mission is under the jurisdiction of the Australian and New Zealand Diocese of the Russian Church.

At the Saturday evening service before the Sunday of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov), abbot of the Sretensky Stavropegic Monastery in Moscow, gave a talk to the congregation about the monastery’s new effort to help the suffering Serbian Orthodox population in Kosovo and Metohija.

Patriarch Kirill chairs regular meeting of the Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church

The Supreme Church Council of the Russian Orthodox Church has met for a regular session on February 6, 2012. It is chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

In his introductory remarks, His Holiness presented the agenda of the meeting.
The Council, which is meeting at the Supreme Church Council Hall at the cathedral Church of Christ the Saviour, will consider the progress made in implementation of the Council’s earlier decisions. The leaders of the synodal departments will report on the work plans of their structures for 2012. As Patriarch Kirill has reported, the plans and reports of synodal departments, which used to be considered by the Holy Synod, will now be put on the agenda of the Supreme Church Council.
