On 10 December 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), arrived in Athens at the invitation of His Beatitude Archbishop Hieronymus II of Athens and All Greece and with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. Metropolitan Hilarion was met at the airport buy Bishop Gabriel of Diavleia, chief secretary of the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church and Mr. F. Voskresensky, second secretary of the Embassy of Russia to Greece.

On December 6, 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, arrived to Slovakia for the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and on the invitation of His Beatitude Metropolitan Christopher of the Czech Lands and Slovakia.

The Eparchy of Vad, Feleac and Cluj dresses feast garments today because it celebrates 90 years since setting up. The historical tradition confirmed by documents too shows that the founder of this eparchy is prince Steven the Great. The Diocese is revived after the Great Union when a Consistory was set up in Cluj city (7/20 July 1919), then as a diocese (on 18 July 1921) with jurisdiction over the counties in the North of the River Mures with the title of the Diocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj.

On 5 December 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), arrived in Vienna with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to take part in the Intereligious Conference on the Family in Crisis. His Eminence leads a Moscow Patriarchate’s delegation, consisting of archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for far abroad countries; archpriest Vladimir Tyschuk, rector of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Vienna; hieromonk Dimitry (Pershin), chairman of the Commission on Bioethics of the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs; deacon Dimitry Safonov, a DECR staff member; A. Komov, a representative of the World Congress of Families in Russia; Gleb Slobin, deputy director of the “Family Welfare” psychological service; and I. Protaschuk, a teacher of the highest qualification category.

U.S. Vice President Biden Visits Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul

On December 3rd U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden met with His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Greek Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul.

Following their meeting, the Vice President and the Ecumenical Patriach were joined by members of the Holy Synod, Metropolitans, and Greek community leaders for continued discussions – not to mention an abundance of the local dessert of choice, Turkish Delight.
