Commemoration of Saints serving as Patriarchs of Constantinople

On Saturday, May 1, 2010, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided at the service of Great Vespers at the Patriarchal Church in commemoration of Saints who served as Archbishops and Patriarchs of Constantinople. In attendance were Metropolitans of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as well as members of the Roman Catholic Focolare Movement.

Meeting of His Beatitude Theodoros II and His Beatitude Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia

On Monday 12th April 2010, His Beatitude Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia visited the Monastery of St George in Old Cairo, accompanied by His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa. The Venerable Primates were welcomed by His Grace Niphon Bishop Babylonos, Hegumen of the Holy Monastery.

Meeting of His Beatitude Theodoros II and Archbishop Leon of Karelia and All Finland

On 13th April 2010, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa warmly welcomed His Eminence Archbishop Leon of Karelia and All Finland to the centuries-old Holy Monastery of St George in Old Cairo. Immediately following the visit to the Church of the Holy Monastery, His Beatitude thanked His Eminence for his contribution to the missionary work in Africa, especially the Holy Metropolis of Kenya.

International Conference: “Saint Mark, the Apostle of Christianity in Egypt”

Under the auspices of His Beatitude the Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa Theodoros II and in collaboration with the Roman Catholic Missionary Community of St. Egidio, International Conference under the title: "Saint Mark, the Apostle of Christianity in Egypt", will be held at the Seat of the Patriarchate on 24 April, on the occasion of St. Mark's celebration.

Conference's goal is to trace and evaluate the life and work of the Apostle and Evangelist St. Mark, the founder of the Alexandrian Church. Particular emphasis will be given to the role played by St. Mark in the propagation and consolidation of Christianity in Egypt, as well as in the historical development of the Alexandrian Church. Moreover it will be examined the framework that enabled Apostle Mark to write the most ancient of the four Gospels, known as the Gospel of Jesus Christ's miracles, as well as the impact that his Gospel exercised in spreading the Christian message in world level. Finally it will be presented the diachronic contribution of Apostle and Evangelist Mark in molding the spiritual and missionary activity of the Alexandrian Throne in the African continent.

Patriarch Kirill writes special prayer for Victory Day

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia wrote a special prayer for clerics and Orthodox believers to read on the Victory Day. "I bless that from this year on all parishes of the Russian Church conduct a festival prayer service on the Victory Day to commemorate the escape of our people from the horrific deadly enemy, from danger our Motherland had never known in its history," Patriarch Kirill said after a Divine Liturgy in St. George Church at Poklonnaya Gora.
