Orthodox in Uganda condemn corruption
20. April 2009 - 12:07The leader of the Orthodox Church in Uganda, Jonah Lwanga, has decried the increasing cases of corruption and prostitution in society. Lwanga also said it was unfortunate that greed had forced people to resort to evil practices such as sacrificing human beings to acquire wealth. Other evils he condemned were murder and sodomy. "Many people in Uganda, including Christians, do not profess in the principle of working for God's kingdom, but believe in earthly treasures," he noted.
Orthodox celebrate holy fire ritual in Jerusalem

April 2009 - 12:03Thousands of Orthodox faithful, carrying torches and bundles of candles signifying the 33 years of Jesus' life, packed into Christianity's holiest shrine on Saturday to celebrate Easter Week's holy fire ritual. Christians traditionally believe Jesus was crucified and buried at the site in Jerusalem's Old City where the Church of the Holy Sepulcher now stands.

Primate of Orthodox Church in America to visit Russia
25. April 2009 - 8:52Metropolitan Jonah of All America and Canada elected head of the Orthodox Church in America in November is to arrive in Russia on Saturday, according to a report posted on the Moscow Patriarchate website.
During his visit which will continue until May 4 Metropolitan Jonah will meet with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and visit holy places in Moscow, the Holy Trinity - St. Sergius Laura and the Valaam Monastery. Metropolitan Jonah and Patriarch Kirill will also jointly conduct religious services at Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral on April 26 and at the Kremlin's Cathedral of the Assumption on May 3.
