Patriarch Kirill’s sends letters to Patriarch Maxim and Bulgarian president concerning the European Court

In February 2009, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia received a letter from His Holiness Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria and the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, notifying him of the decision made by the European Court of Human Rights on 22 January 2009 on the complaint lodged by the Bulgarian schismatic organization led by Innokentiy, ‘Metropolitan of Sofia'. The letter stated in particular that by this decision the European Court of Human Rights accused the Republic of Bulgaria of having violated Article 9 of the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms because it believed the state had interfered in the canonical matters through law and actions to settle a dispute between ‘two leaderships' of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

On 17th March 2009 His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, received the new Ambassador of Cyprus in Egypt, Mr Konstantinos Leontiou at the Patriarchal See, together with Mrs. Ioanna Mallioti, Head of Protocol of the Republic of Cyprus, who discussed with His Beatitude issues regarding the visit by His Excellency Mr. Dimitris Christofias, President of the Cyprus Republic to the ancient Patriarchate next April.

Patriarch Kirill donates one million rubles for construction of Orthodox school in Kaliningrad

Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill made a decision to transfer one million rubles (about $30,000) due to him in his capacity of the first honorary citizen of the Kaliningrad region for the construction of an Orthodox school in the city. "Money will be transferred for the second phase construction of the school centrally located behind Christ the Savior Cathedral in Kaliningrad," Patriarch Kirill said at the dinner with journalists during his visit to his former diocese.

Participants in meeting of Orthodox churches in Sofia release joint statement

The participants in the working meeting between the representatives of the Orthodox Churches have united around a joint statement concerning the issues raised in the European Court of Human Rights decision of January 22nd 2009 in relation to complaints № 412/03 and № 35677/04 about the people who separated from the unity of Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church told Focus News Agency.
