Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, whose lay name is Grigory Alfeyev, is a bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, permanent member of the Holy Synod, chairman of the Synodal Biblical and Theological Commission, rector of the SS Cyril and Methodius Institute of Postgraduate Studies of the Russian Orthodox Church, dean of the Church of Our Lady The Joy of All the Sorrowful on Bolshaya Ordynka Street in Moscow, dean of the Patriarchal Metochion of SS Michael and Theodore of Chrenigov.

Bishop Metodije expressed his deep gratitude for the support given by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. He also thanked Archbishop Elpidophoros of America for advocating on their behalf to Secretary Pompeo and Metropolitan Tikhon along with the hierarchs of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America for their solidarity. It sent a clear message to the hundreds of thousands of faithful in Montenegro marching peacefully twice a week, that they are not alone and that their struggle to save their sanctuaries is supported by their coreligionists in the United States.

Archbishop Sotirios, as a member of the Holy and Sacred Synod, was at the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and when he learned of the falling asleep in the Lord of Bishop Christoforos, spoke with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during the meetings of the Holy and Sacred Synod, about the life of the Bishop, calling him a “Man of God,” and remarking on his many contributions as both a priest and bishop in Canada. The Archbishop then went down to the Patriarchal Church of St. George to lit a candle for the repose of the soul of Bishop Christoforos.
