On 3rd January 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, welcomed to the Patriarchal Mansion the Director of the Βibliotheca Alexandrina, the new Library of Alexandria, Dr. Mostafa El Feki, accompanied by the Deputy Chairlady of the Institute and a seventeen person group of Department Heads of all the Departments of the famous Library.

Orthodox Christians in Seychelles celebrate Christmas

While the rest of the country is recovering from the seasonal festivities, the Orthodox Christians in Seychelles celebrated their Christmas with a Holy Liturgy held at the Berjaya Bay Resort yesterday.

The delay in celebrations is caused by the fact that the Orthodox Church follows the Julian calendar, instead of the widely used Gregory calendar which other Christian churches have adopted.

More than 28 tons of humanitarian aid were delivered from the Chernivtsi Diocese in Western Ukraine to the Holy Dormition Svytagorsk Lavra in Donetsk on December 29, just in time for New Year’s and Nativity celebrations, reports the Lavra’s website.

On January 1, the day of commemoration of the venerable Amphilochius of Pochaev (1894-1971), a festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Holy Dormition-Pochaev Lavra, reports site of the monastery. Thus, hundreds of the faithful had the opportunity to greet the new year before the incorrupt relics of the great saint.

The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ as an innocent child is the greatest witness of God's love for us. Therefore, this festive day filled with joy and light makes up one of the most beautiful celebrations of our Church, on which plenty of Orthodox faithful but also other religious believers gather together to celebrate. The Divine Liturgy, in Tirana, was celebrated at the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral and presided over by Archbishop Anastasios, who was assisted by His Grace Nathanail, Metropolitan of Amantia, Bishop Asti of Bylis and the clergy of the city.
