The consecration of the temporary chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker took place on Wednesday in Reykjavik at the construction site of the future site of the first Orthodox church in Iceland, the Russian embassy in Iceland reported to RIA-Novosti.

The burial of the beloved patrologist, theologian, and spiritual father Schema-Archimandrite Placide (Deseilles) took place yesterday at the Monastery of St. Anthony the Great, a podvoriye of the Athonite Simenopetra Monastery, in Saint-Laurent-en-Royans, France, reports Russian Athos.

Père Placide Deseille has gone to his rest in the Lord

At one o’clock, midday, on 7 January (2018), the day when the Orthodox Church honours the Synaxis of the Honourable Forerunner, Archimandrite Placide Deseille departed this life at the age of 91.

Born on 16 April, 1926, in Issy-les-Moulineaux, in France, Père Placide became a monk at the Cistercian monastery of Bellefontaine, at the age of 16.

Icons captured by terrorists being returned to Syria

Icons that had been stolen by terrorists are being returned to the churches of the Syrian city of Maaloula, city administration representative Joseph Capladin announced on Sunday, reports Interfax-Religion.

“Five icons are located at the patriarchate in Damascus; three have already been returned to our churches. The icons were intercepted in a town on the Syrian-Lebanese border, where militants had taken them to be sold on the black market,” he reported.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation of Warring Parties and the Russian national organization of veterans ‘Fighting Brotherhood’ have brought to Syria and handed over to the Sunday school of the church of St. John the Baptist (Patriarchate of Antioch) Christmas gifts and school stationary collected by the Sunday school children and parishioners of the church of the Finding of the Lord’s Sepulcher in Moscow.

On 6th January 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, together with His Eminence Narcissus, Metropolitan of Accra and Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, officiated during Orthros, conducted the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy and the Service of the Greater Sanctification at the Community Parish of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria, in the presence of His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Mr. Terence Quick, the Honorable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, representatives of the Greek Community, the Cypriot Brotherhood, Greek Associations and agents of the Great City as well as crowds of Christians.
