Work being finished on Athonite church dedicated to St. Paisios

Work is nearing completion on the first church to be dedicated to St. Paisios the Hagiorite on Mt. Athos, reports Russian Athos.The church is being built in the kellia of the Resurrection of Christ in Kapsala on Mt. Athos, which was created at the blessing of St. Paisios himself.

Work on the church began in June 2016, soon after the canonization of St. Paisios. The walls and dome have been erected, and the interior work is under way. It is expected to be completed in just a few months. The monastic brotherhood hopes to have the new church consecrated some time between autumn of this year and June of 2018.

On August 6, during the patronal feast of the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God in Jackson Point, Ontario, Canada, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, the foundation stone of a future chapel in honor of the holy Royal Martyrs was blessed, according to the parish website.

On 7th August 2017, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, welcomed with particular joy a new African member of the Clergy to the Patriarchal See. He is Fr. Athanasios Kayembe, who through the past nine years served as a Priest at the Church of St Athanasios in Ano Kypseli, a Dependency of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, beside His Eminence George, Metropolitan of Guinea, Representative of the Alexandrian Primate in Athens.

Orthodox Seminary of St. Andrew begins work in Guatemala

A new seminary program has begun training eager candidates in Guatemala, where the Orthodox Church is rapidly growing, missionary to Guatemala and Mexico Jesse Brandow writes on his Facebook page.

The program aims to educate leaders of all types in the Church, whether clerical or lay, and features instruction on-site and via Skype.

On 6th August 2017, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, traveled north-eastern Egypt, North of the Suez Canal, to the coastal city of Port Said, See of the Holy Metropolis of Pilousion, to celebrate the feast of the majestic, enormous historic Holy Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour in the city.
