Celebration of National Anniversary in Alexandria

On 28th October 2013, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria. He also presided over the Doxology immediately thereafter for the National Anniversary and the memorial prayers for those Egyptians fighters who fell during the national epic of the year 1940.

Making his first appearance at these events was His Excellency the Governor of Alexandria, General Tarek El Mahdy, to whom His Beatitude expressed his gratitude for his presence and trust in the enormous efforts he has undertaken to reform Alexandria. Also present were the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Christos Kapodistrias, the Registrar of the Educational Institutes of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria Mr. Paris Makris, the Chairman of the Cypriot Brotherhood Mr. Haralambos Haralambides, Chairman of Societies and Officials of the city, teachers and pupils of the Hellenic Schools and other dignitaries.

Doxology in the church of the Resurrection on the occasion of 28th October 1940

On Monday, the 15th/28th October 2013, at 10:30 am, Doxology was held in the All-Holy Church of the Resurrection on the occasion of the national holiday commemorating the 28th of October 1940.

Ecumenical Patriarch in Northern Greece

 Following his visit to the Holy Mountain of Athos, His All-Holiness visited the Holy Metropolises referred to collectively as the New Lands in Northern Greece from October 19-27, 2013. The administration of these provinces was officially entrusted to the Church of Greece by a Patriarchal and Synodal Act of September 4, 1928.

Russian Orthodox Church delegation takes part in 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches

October 30, 2013 – the 10^th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches began its work at the Bexco convention center in Busan. The delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church is led by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations.

The memory of Johannes Kapodistrias celebrated in Greece

October 29-30, the memory of Council Johannes Kapodistrias (1776-1831), Russian Empire’s state secretary for foreign affairs and the first ruler of independent Greece, was honoured in solemn celebrations in Greece on the occasion of the 185^th anniversary of his inauguration as Head of the Greek State in 1828. The celebrations were initiated by the Russian Center of National Glory.

The first part of the celebrations took place on October 29 in Nafplio, the first capital city of independent Greece. The requiem service was celebrated at the church of St. Spyridon of Trimythous, near which Count Kapodostrias was assassinated in 1831. The Nafplio officials, the guards of honour of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and Greek  military laid wreaths at the monument to the first ruler. A solemn concert was given at the Greek Parliament.

Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church meets with President of Ecuador

On 29 October 2013, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with the President of Ecuador, H. E. Rafael Correa.

They were joined in the meeting, which took place at the Patriarchal resident in St. Daniel’s Monastery, by Minister Ricardo Patiño of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration; Ms Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Minister of National Defense; ministers Rafael Poveda Bonilla, Guillaume Long, Richard Espinosa, National secretary for planning and development Pabel Muñoz ; and H.E. Chávez Závala, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ecuador to the Russian Federation.
