Pastoral care for prisoners in Lepoglava and Remetinec

The prisoners expressed their deep gratitude to Metropolitan Porfirije for his pastoral care and love for them.

His Eminence Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb and Ljubljana, accompanied by presbyter Radovan Dimitric and deacon Ugljesa Pilinger, visited Serbs and оther Orthodox prisoners serving prison sentences in the Croatian prisons of Lepoglava and Remetinec on December 10 and 11, 2019.

The clerics performed a prayer service to the Most Holy Mother of God, after which Metropolitan Porfirije spoke to the prisoners on importance of Christmas fasting as a preparation and a way to welcome this joyous holiday in a prayerful mood.

In addition to other Orthodox prisoners, some 120 citizens of the Republic of Serbia are currently held in prisons in Croatia. The Metropolitan also held meetings with prison administrators and their associates, who informed him in detail about the functioning of the prison system and the life of prisoners in that system.

At the end of the visit, the Metropolitan, in addition to the Christmas greetings of peace and joy, distributed commemorative gifts and gave his archpastoral blessing to all those assembled.
