Patriarch Ilia of Georgia condemns explosion in Sakdrisi

Patriarchate of Georgia has released a special statement which reads the following:

‘’The fact of exploding the Sakdrisi gold field has caused our great concern. We cannot understand how the Culture ministry has issued permission to destroy the cultural monument while scientists and civil society were against it.’’

According to the statement all corresponding agencies should have conducted explanatory conversations in order to assure people that they were right and only after that should have issue permission for explosion. ‘’The company should have found alternative ways in order their employees not to be without salaries, as the company has many other territories for exploration.

As a result, we have faced the act which cannot be justified. Georgian Church expresses its great concern in relation to the fact,’’- the statement says.
