Patriarch Theodoros with the orphans of the civil war
On 23rd February 2013 His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Grace Innokentios Bishop of Burundi and Rwanda and other colleagues of the Missionary effort in Bujumbura, visited the settlement developed in the Buramata district with the cooperation of the Government of Burundi, belonging to the Holy Diocese and the NGO “Doctors of the Heart” from Greece, which hosts 600 orphaned children, victims of the civil war of the past.
In the heartwarming reception, the little children sang and embraced His Beatitude the Patriarch, giving him commemorative gifts.
Immediately following the Doxology which was sung in the adjacent Holy Church of St Alexios, His Beatitude addressed paternal words to the children, praised the teaching staff of the Orphanage’s Primary School and held discussions with Government officials regarding the improvement of the work offered, and suggested the creation of a farm for the feeding needs of the Orphanage, and he himself donated the money for the purchase of the first animals.
