Patron Saint's Day of the 4th Land Forces Brigade
On the occasion of the celebration of Saint Atanasije the Great, protector of the town of Vranje and the 4th Land Forces Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces, His Grace Bishop Pahomije of Vranje served the Holy Liturgy in the Cathedral church in Vranje.
The Holy Liturgy was attended by Mr. Miroljub Stojcic, mayor of Vranje with other town officials, as well as the commander of the 4th Land Forces Brigade, with officers, noncommissioned officers and soldiers of the brigade.
In his sermon, Bishop Pahomije of Vranje, reminded the all present on the significance of the liberation of parts of the south of Serbia from the Turkish rule in 1878, as well as the role of the Serbian Army in these fights, under the command of General Jovan Belimarkovic with members of the Drina and Sumadija division and the First Infantry Regiment " PrinceMilos Veliki".
At the end of the Holy Liturgy, Bishop Pahomije of Vranje with priests from Vranje, held a commemoration to the killed soldiers and army leaders in the wars of liberation, until todaym and after that the slava cake was cut of the 4th Land Forces Brigade which continues the tradition of the First Infantry Regiment "Prince Milos Veliki". This slava the Serbian Army in Vranje celebrated in the period from January 31 1878 until January 31, 1941.
Owing to the renewal of tradition in the Serbian Armed Forces from January 31, 2007, then the 78th Motorised Forces Brigade,and today the 4th Land Forces Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces, headed by Commander Brigadier-General Milosav Simovic, renewed the tradition of their Patron Saint's Day - Saint Atanasije the Great. The slava cake was cut by Bishop Pahomije of Vranje and Brigadier-General Milosav Simovic with all the present.
From 12 a.m. Bishop Pahomije attended a celebration at the army barracks "First Infantry Regiment Prince Milos the Great". Yesterday's feast day was concluded with the Solemn academy at the National theatre "Bora Stankovic" in Vranje.
