The transfer of the relics of St. Alexander Nevsky

From an early age turned to God. The prince of Novgorod became in 1236. Even though he had a weaker army, with the help of God, he managed to defeat the Swedes on the Neva River in 1240. In 1250 he became Grande Prince of Vladimir. In Tatar Golden Horde he refused to worship idols. Because of his wisdom, courage, physical strength and beauty, he was also respected by Tatar Khan. Feeling that his end is  near, he took monastic vows and was given the religious name of Alexis, partook the Holy Communion and - died. It was in 1263 when he was 43 years old.  At the funeral, as alive, he opened his hand and took farewell charter from the Metropolitan. By order of Peter the Great, Nevsky’s relics were transported from Vladimir to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg where they remain to this day.
