Placing Epitaphios at St Marko church
With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia and His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno, vicar of Serbian Patriarch, served an evening service at the church of St Marko in Belgrade with the concelebration of the priesthood of this temple. During the service there was a placing of Epitaphios (winding-sheet) which was laid on the Christ's tomb in front of the iconostas.
The church was full of believers who came to worship the sacrifice of Our Lord and to kiss holy wound of the Saviour on the winding-sheet.
Bishop Atanasije delivered a speech in which he emphasized that that today we stand before the tomb of Son of God and Life-Giver and that in kenosis and silence we see what had really happened, why Our Lord had given himself in hands of people sinners and what kind of change he had brought in lives of people and the history of mankind. His descent into death, grave and hell Christ destroyed death itself, devastated hell and defeated Satan. This victory of Christ all pathways of human life, including death itself and hell became passable and bright. Christ had arisen the third day, opening us also a path to resurrection. When we are with Christ, His victory is also our victory, pointed out Bishop of Hvosno.
