President of the Parliament of Cyprus meets with the Serbian Patriarch
His Holiness Porfirije, the Serbian Patriarch, received the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs. Annita Demetriou, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade, on October 31, 2021.
In a cordial and friendly conversation with the Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament, the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church emphasized the great importance of further promoting mutual respect and love between the two fraternal Orthodox nations and the two countries.
The Patriarch also pointed out that, given the similar histories and even similar temptations, our two countries must have peace and the preservation of peace as their basic course of action. In that sense, the interlocutors showed the highest level of understanding for the problems that exist, given that parts of the territories of both countries were forcibly occupied and the Orthodox population expelled, and that in both the Republic of Cyprus and Serbia there is awareness that solving all problems peacefully must come first.
Mrs. Anita thanked His Holiness for the reception and invited him to visit Cyprus.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Serbia, Mr. Demetrios Theophylactou, as well as associates of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus.
