President of Serbia Boris Tadic visits side chapel of St Luke of Simferopol at the MMA

President of Serbia Boris Tadic have visited today on September 14, 2009, a side chapel of St Luke of Simferopol at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, where he did the reverence to the icon with the relics of St Luke, the great Russian archbishop, doctor, painter and confessor; brought from Russia, as a gift and a blessing of Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow and All Russia.

At the side chapel the Holy Liturgy is served daily since the Saint Lazar's Day on April 11, 2009, when was the Patron Saint's day of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia, who is undergoing medical treatment in this institution. 

Life of Saint Luke, Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea

Archbishop Luke, was born with the name Valentine Felixovitch Voino-Yassentsky, April 27, 1877 in Kerch , in a family of pharmacists. His repose was June 11, 1961.

In November of 1995 he was announced as a Saint by the Holy Synod of Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. In 2000, the Assembly of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church counted archbishop Luke of Simferopol and Crimea among the Russian New Martyrs and Confessors. It is celebrated on May 29/June 11.
