Primates of Greek Orthodox Churches of Middle East meet in Cyprus
Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, Spokesman of Antioch Patriarch, Bishop Elias and the Representative of the Patriarch of Alexandria, Athinodoros Papaevripiades are in Cyprus, at the invitation of Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos.
According to an official press release issued Tuesday, they participated Monday in a meeting of the Primates and the Representatives of the Orthodox Churches Middle East, which took place at the Holy Archbishopric, in Nicosia.
The aim of the meeting was to further strengthen ties between the Patriarchates and the Church of Cyprus, to improve their cooperation and to reinforce relations with all Christians of the Middle East.
The Primates and Representatives of Churches also discussed geopolitical changes, evolving today in the broader region of the Middle East and stressed the importance of the Orthodox Church.
They decided to undertake joint actions to remedy the situation in the Middle East and promote the rights of Christians internationally, to protect their human rights in their homeland and safeguard Christian principles and values in general.
Furthermore, they stressed the important role of the Orthodox Churches in the Council of Middle East Churches, and it was decided that issues such as the protection of the Christian populations to be discussed at the Council's General Assembly, to be held in Amman, Jordan, in September.
