Prokopis Pavlopoulos President of the Hellenic Republic at the Phanar

On Monday, May 22, 2017, His Excellency Prokopis Pavlopoulos, President of the Hellenic Republic, made an official visit to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, accompanied by His Excellency Terence Quick, Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Loukakis, Ambassador to Turkey, and Evangelos Sekeris, Consul General in Istanbul. The President was in Turkey for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Summit.

His All-Holiness and the Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne received President Pavlopoulos in the Chamber of the Throne, where they exchanged greetings and gifts. The Patriarch thanked President Pavlopoulos for his presence this past summer in Crete at the Patriarchal Concelebration of Pentecost, which marked the beginning of the Holy and Great Council, as well as for the support and concern of the Greek State for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox community in Turkey. The President in turn expressed his gratitude for the honors with which he was received at the Phanar and assured His All-Holiness of Greece’s tireless support for the work and mission of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
