Purchase of a scanner for Saint Sava Hospital in Belgrade urgent
With the blessing of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, and with the organization of the Steering Committee of the Patriarchate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Saint Sava Special Hospital for Cerebrovascular Diseases, andunder the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, a humanitarian gathering in the crypt of the Memorial Cathedral of Saint Sava was held on 10 December 2015.
By the number of strokes Serbia is among the leading countries of the world. Nowadays in the world in every twenty minutes one stroke happens, and in every sixty minutes someone dies. The Saint Sava Hospital provides care for about 80 percents of all strokes that occur in a wider territory of Belgrade. In addition to it, this hospital is specialized for treatment of the stroke; every minute counts, and the very first three hours since the stroke have been most important for a patient.
The national anthem “O' God of Justice”, which was sung by the Chanting ensemble Mokranjac, conducted by Mrs. Jelena Jez, marked the beginning of the campaign to raise funds.
Present physicians and medical workers of Saint Sava Hospital were greeted by Serbian Patriarch Irinej, who said that raising funds for necessary scanner for this hospital began in the homonymous church, which was not a coincidence, since St. Sava, despite all the work towards the establishment of an independent state and self-governing Serbian Church (1219), organized the first hospital in the monastery Studenica in the first half of the 13th century.
