Reflections on the Repose of Metropolitan Amfilohije

He was faithful to him who appointed him,

just as Moses also was faithful in God’s house.”

(Hebrews 3:2)

On this solemn day, Friday, October 30, 2020, at 8.20am, the Most Reverend Archbishop of Cetinje, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, and Exarch of the Holy Throne of the Patriarchate of Pech, Kyr Amfilohije, having received Holy Communion, reposed in the Lord in the Clinical Hospital Center of Montenegro, on the eve of the feast of St. Peter of Cetinje.

Much has been said and will be said about the manifold accomplishments of this truly unique and great man of God. He was and remains an epic person in the life of our Holy Serbian Orthodox Church and Orthodoxy throughout the world.

He was a driving force in the Patristic and Liturgical revival of our Orthodox Church. He resurrected the near lost Orthodox Faith in Montenegro, and was and is its greatest builder, who crowned the Capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, with a most resplendent temple, appropriately dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ, in which he will be eulogized and buried on Sunday, the Day of the Resurrection. Prior to his falling asleep in the Lord, having accomplished the internal liberation of Montenegro, he crowned his people with democracy! His legacy and he will continue to live on in our memory and in our lives.

May Metropolitan Amfilochije, our intercessor before the Throne of the Risen Lord, remember us in his holy prayers, as we remember him in our prayers. May he now intercede for the resurrection of the Chapel of St. Peter of Cetinje atop Mount Lovchen and, as the keeper of the Throne of Pech, may he pray for the salvation of Kosovo and Metohija, and for us all!

Memory Eternal in the Kingdom of the King of Glory, to the servant of God, our beloved brother and father in Christ, the good Metropolitan Amfilohije!

“BLESSED BE HE WHO LIVES FOREVER, FOR HE HAD CAUSE TO BE BORN!”
