Remembrance of Holy martyrs of Jasenovac
With the blessing of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, the church of Holy Ascension of God and the Publishing Fund of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac organized a pilgrim journey to the monastery of Jasenovac, in the diocese of Slavonija, on September 13, 2011, on the day when the martyrs of Jasenovac are mentioned.
The Holy Hierarchal Liturgy was served by His Grace Bishop Sava of Slavonia with priests of the diocese of Slavonia and the Arcbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac. During the Holy Liturgy Bishop Sava honored presbyter Djordje Teodorovic, Aleksandar Bijelic and Aleksandar Gacesa with the dignity of protonamesnik. At the end of the Holy Liturgy the slava cake was cut and the wheat was blessed in honor and memory of Holy Martyrs of Jasenovac.
Believers from Ascension Church and the monastery of Rakovica gave contributions for the restoration of the church of Sts. Peter and Paul the Apostles in Kucanci, the birth place of Patriarch Pavle of blessed repose.
Priests from the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac and the diocese of Timok served the memorial service at the monument to the victims of Jasenovac.
Pilgrims from Belgrade and Banja Luka visited the Memorial complex in Jasenovac, and then together went to Republic of Srpska and there visited the Memorial complex of Donja Gradina.
On the way back to Belgrade they visited also a place where was a notorious concentration camp in the complex of Jasenovac's camps - Stara Gradiska.
