On Monday, 24 April 2017, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visited the Shriners Hospitals for Children – Boston and MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) in Boston.

Their Royal Highnesses, accompanied by Crown Princess Katherine’s sister Mrs. Betty Roumeliotis and the Royal family’s local friends, Nada Kosanovic Sizemore, a Member of the Eastern American Diocesan Council, and Ljiljana Grkovic, toured the hospitals – Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center and Patty Ribakoff Newborn Intensive Care Unit, heard presentations and met physicians and other clinical leaders in order to get familiar with their methods on accepting patients for care. Among other experts, Their Royal Highnesses met Dr. Branko Bojovic, Ellen Plapinger, Dr. Ronald Kleinmann, Dr. Allan Goldstein, Tatiana Sultzbach, Dr. Helen Shih, Jim Matthews, Meagan Coons, Dr. Phoebe Yager, Dr. Paul Lerou and Peggy Settle.

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Boston is a pediatric specialty hospital where children from around the world are treated regardless of their families’ ability to pay. This hospital specializes in the following areas of care: burn care, orthopedics, plastic surgery, cleft lip and palate treatment, skin disorders and specialized wound care.

With more than 300 physicians, 50 medical specialties, 15 surgical services, and compassionate preventive and primary care, MassGeneral Hospital for Children is an invaluable resource for the healthcare needs of infants, children and adolescents worldwide.  Coupled with a family-centered approach to care, MGHfC’s state-of-the-art facilities and technologies help provide exceptional care for their patients.

Later, Their Royal Highnesses visited Dana Farber Cancer institute where their hosts were Sylvia Bartel, President of circle of Serbian Sisters at the St Sava Cathedral in Cambridge and vice president at Dana Farber Institute, and Dr. Leslie Lehmann who is Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School, and Medical Director, Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Unit, Boston Children’s Hospital.

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine thanked to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Boston, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, Dana Farber Institute, St. Petka Circle of Serbian Sisters, as well as Lifeline New York Humanitarian Organization who’s patron is Crown Princess Katherine.
