Russia and Serbia: A long history of spiritual bonds

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia visited the exhibition “Russia and Serbia: History of Spiritual Bonds”

On 15 November in the afternoon Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russiapayed a visit to the exhibition “Russia and Serbia: History of Spiritual Bonds from XIV until XIX Centuries”. The organizers of this exhibition, held in the former residence of Prince Milos Obrenovic, today the exposition space of the Historical Museum of Serbia at Topcider, are the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Federal Archive Agency (Rossarchive) and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, with the participation of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Archive of Ancient Documents, State Historical Museum (Moscow) and the Historical Museum of Serbia.

At the exhibition one could see many material testimonies of spiritual ties of the two peoples: official documents which are kept in archives, charters, decrees, letters and diaries of contemporaries, geographic maps and photographs. In the first place, these are photographs of Serbian princes which are being preserved in the State Archive of the RF, charter of the Serbian Society of the Red Cross issued to Great Princess Alexandra Petrovna for her aid to the wounded and sick Serbian soldiers, report of the Serbian Charitable Society in Odessa and a number of other previously unknown documents.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill surveyed the exhibition accompanied by Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation V. R. Medinsky, Minister of Culture and Information of Serbia Ivan Tasovac and Director of the State Archive of the Russian Federation C.V. Mironenko.

The Primate of the Russian Church rated with the high grade the way the documents and exhibits were showcased and thanked the organizers of the exhibition which offers a possibility to simultaneously examine that indestructible centuries-old relationship that exists between Serbian and Russia.
