Russian Orthodox Church fundraised over $780,000 for Serbia

The Moscow Patriarchate transferred money to the Serbian Orthodox Church to help victims of the flood.“In response to my call to all faithful children of our Church, we held a fundraising to support victims in Serbia.

The collected means in amount of 27 million rubles (which makes over $780,000 – IF) have already been transferred to the special account of the Serbian Orthodox Church,” the patriarchal message to Patriarch Irinej of Serbia reads.

The Primate also informed that on May 19-21 when the flood reached its peak, the Synodal Department for Church Charities and the Representation of the Russian Church in Belgrade made the first delivery of hygiene products, food and cloths to towns of Sabac, Svilajnac and Leskovac.

Serbia survived the most disastrous flood in recent ten years in mid May. Russian emergency officers started working in the country on May 16. They evacuated about 3,000 people, including more than 600 children. Emergency Ministry jets delivered over 105 tons of humanitarian help to Serbia residents. 47 people received medical help.
